United Adds Rare Winter Flights From San Francisco to Barcelona
The airline will operate two round trips this winter, timed for a major trade show in March.

Simple Flying reports that United Airlines is adding two rare winter round trips from San Francisco to Barcelona, using a Boeing 777-300ER. The flights are scheduled for February and March, with the March rotation timed around the Mobile World Congress, held in Barcelona from March 1 to 4, 2027.
United usually operates this route only during the summer season. The new winter service is a short-term addition, according to Aeroroutes, which is cited by Simple Flying. The Mobile World Congress is a major telecommunications trade show that marked its 20th anniversary this year and drew nearly 105,000 attendees.
For travelers, these extra flights mean additional long-haul capacity during a typically quiet period for transatlantic travel. While the flights are aimed at corporate demand around the conference, leisure travelers could also find seats. The use of the Boeing 777-300ER, a large widebody, suggests United expects strong demand.
Timing is the cheapest travel upgrade there is. A winter flight on a summer-only route is a rare find.
If you're flexible with travel dates and planning a winter trip to Barcelona, these rotations could offer more availability and potentially lower fares compared to peak summer. But with only two round trips, seats will be limited. Watch United's schedule if you want to take advantage of this seasonal addition.
