Hilton Honors 120% points bonus: what travelers need to know

The Points Guy reports that Hilton's 120% points bonus drops the price to 0.45 cents each, but only saves you money if you have a specific stay in mind.

Hilton Honors launched a limited-time offer to earn 120% bonus points when you buy points. Is this best-ever promotion worth it?

The Points Guy reports that Hilton Honors is offering a 120% bonus when you purchase points, the program's highest bonus ever. For every 1,000 points you buy, you receive 1,200 bonus points, more than doubling your total.

The offer

The promotion runs through Nov. 21 for most members, though the deal may be targeted. You must buy at least 5,000 points to get the bonus. You can purchase points in increments of 1,000, up to 240,000 points before the bonus (528,000 after). Members are capped at 240,000 purchased points per calendar year during the promotion.

With the bonus, each point costs 0.45 cents instead of the usual 1 cent, a 55% savings.

When buying makes sense

Buying loyalty points is rarely a good deal, The Points Guy notes. After recent devaluations, Hilton points are valued at 0.4 cents each per The Points Guy's October 2026 valuations. The purchase price of 0.45 cents is above that valuation, so you need a specific stay where the award gives you more value than paying cash.

The Points Guy shares two examples where buying points worked out. A New Year's Eve stay at Motto by Hilton New York City Times Square costs 150,000 points. Buying all those points with the bonus would cost $690, saving $124 over the cash rate.

A five-night stay at The Morrison Dublin during St. Patrick's week, with the elite fifth-night free benefit, costs 280,000 points. Purchasing those points with the bonus costs $1,280, saving nearly $600 over the cash rate of 1,855 euros ($2,076).

Terms to remember

Points expire after 24 months of inactivity. The purchase is nonrefundable. Always check both cash and award rates before buying. Pay with a credit card that earns extra rewards on these purchases.

What this means for you: Only buy points if you already have a Hilton stay in mind and the math works in your favor; for everyone else, this deal isn't worth it.
