United Airlines is rolling out 10 new nonstop routes this month, spanning seven of its hubs across the U.S. Simple Flying reports that the additions, based on OAG data for October, include both brand-new markets and resumptions of routes not flown in years.

Half of the routes have never been served by United or United Express since at least 1990. Two of those go to Owensboro, Kentucky, from Washington Dulles and Chicago O'Hare. The Dulles-Owensboro route, in particular, is unprecedented for any airline and is subsidized by the Essential Air Service.

The majority of the routes begin on or around October 25, when United switches to its winter schedule per IATA slot seasons.

The full list of new and resumed routes

  • **October 7:** Denver to Moab (resumed, last flown 2024; up to 13 weekly CRJ200s)
  • **October 13:** Washington Dulles to Owensboro (new; two daily CRJ200s)
  • **October 24:** Chicago O'Hare to Tokyo Narita (resumed, last flown 2020; daily 787-8)
  • **October 25:** Washington Dulles to Los Cabos (resumed, last flown 2019; mostly 4 weekly 737 MAX 9)
  • **October 25:** Los Angeles to Fort Lauderdale (new; up to 2 daily 737 MAX 8/9)
  • **October 25:** Chicago O'Hare to Owensboro (new; daily CRJ200)
  • **October 25:** Chicago O'Hare to Shreveport (new; daily E175, switching to CRJ200 on Jan. 5)
  • **October 25:** San Francisco to Cincinnati (resumed, last flown 2020; daily 737-800)
  • **October 28:** Houston Intercontinental to Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Mexico (resumed, last flown 2013; 3 weekly E175)
  • **October 31:** Newark to St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands (new; weekly 737-700)

Several of these routes will be operated by SkyWest on 50-seat Bombardier CRJ200 regional jets. Simple Flying notes these aircraft are small and cramped, though they typically fly short hops: the average CRJ200 route in United Express's network covers just 256 nautical miles. However, the O'Hare-Shreveport route, after it switches to the CRJ200 on January 5, will become the carrier's longest CRJ200 market from O'Hare at 637 nautical miles, blocked at up to 2 hours 40 minutes.

Denver remains United's second-busiest hub for movements and seats this month, but leads all hubs for nonstop destinations with 197 routes, three more than O'Hare. Denver's October network now covers 47 U.S. states and territories, plus 12 countries. Service to Utah, including the Moab restart, is up 16% year-over-year.

"It is always good to see services commencing from multiple hubs," Simple Flying reported.

For travelers, these additions mean more direct options to smaller cities like Owensboro and Shreveport, seasonal leisure markets like Los Cabos and St. Croix, and the return of a key transpacific link to Tokyo.
