Comedy Wildlife Awards finalists: 47 funny photos and 9 videos

The annual contest's shortlist features quirky animal moments, and voting is open for the People's Choice Award.

Angry Bird

CNN Travel reports the 2026 Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards have released a shortlist of finalists: 47 images and nine videos selected from more than 10,000 submissions across 112 countries. That's the most entries in the competition's 11-year history.

The competition, created in 2015, aims to use humor to promote wildlife conservation. Co-founder Tom Sullam said in a statement, "What began as a small effort to raise awareness of wildlife conservation has grown into something far bigger than we ever imagined." He added that humor helps people feel empathy toward wildlife, which drives behavioral change.

Finalists include an elephant covering its eye with its trunk, two birds appearing to share a secret kiss, and a green mantis posing on a leaf.

Voting is open now for the STERNA People's Choice Award. The winners, chosen by a judging panel, will be announced at an awards night in London on December 8. Finalists' works will be exhibited until December 13.

If you're planning a trip to London in early December, the exhibit might be worth a stop. Or, if you just want a laugh, you can browse the shortlist online now.
