Simple Flying reports American Airlines has dropped or suspended nine routes, citing Cirium data. Here is who is affected.

The international cuts

Five of the nine are international, including three to Canada. Miami to Montreal is canceled. Simple Flying reports the last flight is Jan. 5, 2027. New York JFK to Toronto will not return as scheduled. Dallas-Fort Worth to Montreal is suspended in parts of spring 2027 and again in November 2026.

Two Mexico routes are gone. Miami to Tulum ends Jan. 5, 2027, and Charlotte to San Jose del Cabo is removed after August 2027. Simple Flying notes both routes had low load factors. American still serves Tulum from Dallas-Fort Worth.

The domestic cuts

Chicago O'Hare to Lincoln, Nebraska, is canceled. American launched that route in June 2026. Simple Flying reports the airline faced strong competition from United on the route. Dallas-Fort Worth to Albany is canceled. Phoenix to Provo is canceled, with a 67.99% load factor over the last year. Washington National to Hilton Head Island is a temporary suspension through early April 2027.

What to do now

If you are booked on any of these routes, check your reservation. For permanently canceled routes, the airline will typically rebook you or offer a refund. Simple Flying confirms these changes are already in American's schedule. For suspended routes, watch for rebooking notices from the airline.
