American Airlines Returns to JFK-Seattle With Twice-Daily Airbus A321neo Flights
The carrier resumes nonstop service on April 2, 2027, after an eight-year hiatus, using the 196-seat A321neo.

American Airlines will restart nonstop service between New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) on April 2, 2027, Simple Flying reports.
Cirium schedule data shows the carrier will operate two daily round trips using the 196-seat Airbus A321neo. American previously served the route from 1992 until 2019, using Boeing 757, 767, and 737-800 aircraft. The new flights mark the first time Airbus equipment will be used on the route.
The schedule is as follows:
- AA437: JFK 7:45 a.m. – SEA 11:20 a.m. (daily)
- AA1389: JFK 5:29 p.m. – SEA 9:12 p.m. (daily)
- AA342: SEA 11:33 a.m. – JFK 8:10 p.m. (daily)
- AA1306: SEA 10:38 p.m. – JFK 7:02 a.m.+1 (daily)
What it means for travelers
Seattle travelers get a red-eye option on the eastbound return, a service American last offered in 2018. The cabin is split into 20 domestic first seats, 35 main cabin extra seats (33-inch pitch), and 141 standard economy seats (30-inch pitch).
A transcontinental market with 11 daily departures
For the 12 months ending June 2026, U.S. Department of Transportation data showed 691,655 passengers flew between JFK and SEA. Nearly all (98.5%) traveled nonstop. When Newark and New York LaGuardia are included, the city-level market hit 1,317,409 passengers.
American carried only 0.6% of JFK-SEA traffic before the restart, down from 14.6% in 2018, when it last flew nonstop.
By July 2027, the route will have 11 daily departures across four airlines, the second-highest volume for that month ever. Only July 2018 had more, with 14. American and its close partner Alaska Airlines will control 55% of nonstop services, Simple Flying reports.
American's JFK summer 2027 plans
Between April and July 2027, American plans 25 domestic routes from JFK, averaging 72 daily departures. That's a 5% increase over the same period in 2025. Delta will remain the largest domestic operator at JFK with 165 daily departures, followed by JetBlue with 98. New for American this summer: Bozeman, Montana, launching July 18 with four weekly 737 MAX 8 flights.
